New Instagram for Tarot
I decided years ago, way back when I bought my first tarot deck, that I'd learn the tarot "someday". Over the decade and more since, "someday" has come and gone. This was a bit frustrating to me, because learning the tarot was something that I'd always wanted to do, ever since my first experience with someone else reading for me.
But instead, I just collected decks and struggled to get "learning the tarot" going in a manner that satisfied me. Some of this was fear. I was still struggling with the baggage of Christianity that I'd been lugging around most of my life and trying to find ways to continue in that faith. The rest was that I guess I just wasn't ready to commit in any significant manner. I'd start to study the tarot, then let myself get distracted.
At the end of July of this year, my lack of commitment to the tarot really bothered me. I decided something had to be done. So I created an Instagram dedicated to the tarot. My goal is to put up a post each day of a Card of the Day reading and really begin to explore how the tarot works for me.
So far, since the 30th of July, things have been going fairly well. I've missed a day or two of posting a reading, but I've been quite consistent for someone who lacked commitment before. I've managed to post something each day since the start, even if it isn't a tarot reading. However, most days I have managed to post a tarot reading.
The three sources for definitions I'm using all offer both upright and reversal meanings. Yeah, I know the going wisdom is to learn the upright readings first, but I can't keep the cards all upright in my decks anyway, so I'm going with learning both at the same time. Besides, I feel the reversals offer a perspective that I need in my readings. More than that, it just feels right to include reversals right off the start, and I'm going with that feeling so I will actually be committed to these daily one-card readings.
My primary deck is the Universal Waite tarot. It took years for me to find a Smith-Rider-Waite deck I actually liked the artwork in, and I'm glad my spouse introduced me to this deck. Way back when I only had the yellowed-out deck, I never thought I'd enjoy using a SRW deck so much. I love it though. The artwork as colored by Mary Hanson-Roberts appeals to me much better than the first SRW deck I found. I don't know why that first deck had yellowed-out artwork, but I detested it and once swore, based upon that deck's artwork, that I'd never use SRW decks at all. Very glad my mind has been changed on that.
On Fridays, I'll be posting readings from Guest Decks. I thought it would be fun to switch things up a bit each week. It'll also give me a chance to work with my other decks, though I already know some of them are going to be challenging. I don't know what days I'll be working in the future, so the Guest Deck day may change, as I prefer to keep the rest of my decks at home for now, but there will be a Guest Deck post on one of my days off each week.
And while I've stated I'm doing one-card Card of the Day readings, I'm not excluding the possibility of multiple-card readings. Especially not when more than one pop out of the deck and volunteer themselves for my perusal. I just take a pic of them for the Instagram (and my personal Tarot Journal) and dive into collecting the information I need to complete the reading, if I have little or no familiarity with the cards' definitions.
I've provided a link to the new Instagram for those of you nonexistent readers who want to add it to your list of Instagram accounts you're following. Also, it's there for those of you who don't have an Instagram. This Instagram account, like all my other ones, is public, so the posts should be accessible even without logging in. Enjoy!
